Elephants, elephants, elephants. I spent 2 days in Seblat Elephant Conservation Center. This was a happier visit than in 2020. I visited the Center just as Covid forced me to return to the U.S. That was an amazing trip!! If you are interested in the last of my pre-Covid days, you can check out that blog: March 19-21: Elephants All the Way Down.

This time, we stayed at the center with the elephants. In 2020, the team camped across the river from the Center. The only way to get to the Center is to cross the river by boat. They use a long boat. We knew this was going to be a great adventure because we were greeted by a rainbow.

The Center has dorm style rooms with a bathroom in the back and a furnished kitchen. Everything you need.

In the morning, we went out to look for elephants. No elephants, but the rainforest is beautiful.

We found an orphaned staghorn fern. The elephants tear them down from the trees and eat them. Deni and the Ranger saved this one (I hope) by tying it back to the tree. The other 2 are beyond helping.

We did find elephant poo. This is Bona’s poo. I will not tell you how they know it is Bona’s poo. You need to watch the video. Bona is the youngest. They found him in the forest nearly dead without a mother. They fed him kangaroo milk from Australia until he was strong enough and old enough to eat.

Of course, the best part of the visit is the elephants!!! There are 10 elephants at the Center. Four of the elephants go back to the forest, but they come back to the Center to stay. The others are chained in place for the safety. The mahouts exercise them daily.
I could not decide which photo to use, so included ALL of them. You can never see enough elephant pictures. I fed her corn cobs and rice. Her tongue is wet and solid, but squishy. She has beautiful eyes.
