Reclining Buddha October 16, 2025

Thailand is the land of Buddhist temples. They are beautiful, but there are so many they started looking the same. I did all tourist places The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. I like the chicken-person statue.

My favorite is Wat Pho–the Reclining Buddha. It is covered in gold-leaf. The temple where it is housed is considered the birthplace of Thai massage. This beauty is 50′ tall and 150′ long. The best thing I saw today. The soles of the feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The feet display the symbols of Buddha, such as dancers, flowers, tigers, and white elephants. At the center of the foot is a circle representing a chakra energy point.

I miss my photographers/videographers. Now it is up to me to get the photos/videos. Hard to get them of your self without a selfie stick. I met a girl traveling alone. She had a full tripod for her iPhone with a remote control to take her photos. I just do selfies, which means you basically see the top of my head with stuff behind me. I got lucky today. I got help from the audience.

I started the day with a walk around the morning market. I ended the day with a food tour. We took a tuktuk which is basically an updated motorized rickshaw. The tour included a few hidden places around Bangkok. Good thing I started using chopsticks when I was in college. I thought, “Well I should probably learn how to use these. I never know when I will need this skill.” For dessert, we stopped for a bucket of crickets. Yep. I ate some.

This is a video of the morning market and walking around town. I loved watching the Asian Water Monitors. They look like really big lizards, which is good because that is what they are. They get about 6′ long. Their scientific name Stellio salvator translates to monitor savior.
