Nov 2 (2022) New Island, New Adventure–Enggano

Last week Bangka Island. This week Enggano. Enggano is the most remote island on which I have stayed overnight. No internet. Really glad I loaded my Indonesian phone with credits so I can stay in touch. I use it as an internet hotspot. The choices for getting here are a flight or a ferry. The flight is about 40 minutes. The ferry is 12 hours. I went with flight. The little plane is it!! The ticket is my name handwritten on a form.

Made it! My translator this week is Zulvan–the guy on the far right. I have no idea who the guy in the middle is, but he acted happy to be in the picture so I went with it. This was pre-take off. I figured if he was so happy, the flight could not be too bad. Zulvan and I met for the first time in the taxi on the way to the airport. Do not know anything about him. Hope he is good. We got a week together on a remote island. The next flight/ferry does not leave until Tuesday, but we are supposed to be here December 9. If we do not get along, being stuck on an island might not be so good. In the taxi, he seemed like a nice guy.

The pilots said they were 23 and 25, but they looked 15 and 17 to me. I think this means I am getting older. Aren’t they cute with their Top Gun aviator glasses on? When I got on the plane, they asked me to sit behind them. Glad I did! I got a birds eye view of the flight from take off to landing. The plane holds 12 people. Reminded me of a flight Tammy and I took in Honduras to Utila Island. At least the airstrip here was paved. The one Tammy and I landed on was dirt.
